As always, I walked randomly in a demonstration this weekend. Today anti-abortion movement where doing their annual «Walk of Life». I did a specific report on this (soon to be online), but I also took time to observe the media presence in the demonstration. There was maybe 2 or 3 TV crew, about 10 photographer like me, but also a huge amount of spectator shooting the demonstration from behind their cell phone or point and shoot camera. Hundreds of witnesses all along the street, shooting the same moments than me just because they were in the street at the exact right time.
But wait, what was the role of the photographer again ?

[…] Étant là un peu par hasard, je les suis, un bout de chemin. Petit à petit les des photographes rejoigne le cortège… jusqu’à République ou je décroche. On en arrivait à un ratio d’un photographe pour deux manifestants, la situation devenait vraiment grotesque. Je ne remets pas en cause le mouvement anti-ACTA, loin de là, je soutiens leur cause. Mais dans notre cas on est dans une non-actualité totale du point de vue du photographe de presse. C’est la Xième occurrence de la manif et le sujet a déjà été couvert de nombreuses fois dans les semaines passé. Tout cela, sans compter les 243 smartphone et le 94 compact qui auront eux aussi imortalisé le défilé (j’avais d’ailleurs fait un mini reportage à ce sujet) […]
